About Dr. Kelly Guthrie

So by now you know that I am a therapist…at least I hope you know this about me by now! There are many different kinds of therapists, like psychologists, social workers, and counselors, and telling one from another can be challenging to say the least. I am a psychologist, which means that I have a doctoral degree in, and a license to practice, psychology. I received my Ph.D. in counseling Psychology from Texas Woman’s University in 2000, and have been licensed as a psychologist in Texas since 2002. In addition to being a Licensed Psychologist, I am certified as a sex therapist by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).

The Roots of My Practice

I live and work in Wichita Falls, Texas. My family moved here during my early adolescence and, although  I was very unhappy about living here in the beginning, I have developed a deep affection for this community and am proud to call it home. I started my career in 2001 working as a staff psychologist at the Midwestern State University Counseling Center. The almost seven years I spent at Midwestern gave me invaluable experience working with all manner of people and problems, but I was especially drawn toward working with clients who were struggling with relationship issues. It was so rewarding and energizing to be able to help individuals and couples overcome their relationship problems that I knew this was what I wanted to do with my career. I now have a very fulfilling private practice working with individual adults and couples who are struggling with relationship issues and truly love my work.

Just Relationship Problems?

Absolutely not! I also work with individual adults and couples who are struggling with sexual problems, depression, anxiety, chronic health and/or medical conditions, grief and loss, and infertility and other reproductive health issues. In addition to providing in-person and telephone therapy services, I provide educational and consultation services for communities and professionals. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, my practice has expanded to include a national as well as a local audience.

When I Take Off My Therapist Hat

I make it a priority to balance my professional work life and my personal life. I’ll be the first to admit this isn’t always easy but I am definitely more effective in all areas of my life when I maintain this balance. I enjoy hanging out with my family and friends, reading, camping, and watching (but definitely not playing) baseball.
